Thank you, Lissu tells police force

CHAMA Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) Presidential candidate, Mr Tundu Lissu, has expressed his appreciation to the police force for ensuring safety in their election campaign meetings in various parts of the country.

The statement was made yesterday in Mwanza City by Mr Lissu when he was addressing journalists from various media outlets to inform them how his party has succeeded in its election campaigns in 12 regions it has visited so far.

He said that in the second round of the campaigns, the party has managed to visit Songwe, Geita, Kigoma, Kagera, Mwanza,Mbeya,Katavi, Morogoro, Coast and Mara regions.

Mr Lissu added that the party also managed to conduct a number of campaigns in many places where it visited.

He said the success attained the second round of the campaign was due to major support given to them by the community in their meetings in different parts of the country.

"We congratulate the police for the support and safeguarding our meetings, which includes escoringt us in our meetings, the spirit has positive results" Mr Lissu told reporters.

He said that although their second phase of campaign was fruitful, they encountered challenges in Bukoba Municipal Council, Katoro and Geita, where a group of other party members pelted their vehicles with stones.

In another development, Mr Lissu said that if he is elected as the next president, he will extend freedom of press and expression to nurture democracy in our country.

He said that once elected, his government will copy press freedom exercised in Ghana and not western media freedom.
