PASIANSI Primary School emerged the overall winners of the Play Unified, Learn Unified football competition which climaxed yesterday in Mwanza.
They managed to defeat Mirongo Primary School 4-2 in their first match before posting a 5-4 win over Kirumba Primary School in one of the tough matches on the day.
The other encounter saw Ibesho Primary School humiliating Igoma Primary School 7-0 in a one sided game which was hard to swallow by the latter.
The contest attracted six primary schools on one battlefield to implement the objectives of the Play Unified, Learn Unified, which aims at promoting inclusion between people with intellectual disabilities and their normal counterparts.
In volleyball, Ibeshi Primary School excelled by winning two matches to claim the top position in this sport discipline.
They hammered Kirumba 2-1 and smashed Pasiansi by the similar score line whereas Igoma overpowered Mirongo 2-1 in another match on the day.
Speaking with the ‘Daily News’ that, one of the Play Unified, Learn Unified coaches from Pasiansi Primary School Michael Menard, said that the games helped a lot to enhance the spirit of unity among people with intellectual disadvantaged and their normal friends.
“To say the truth, there are many positives which have emerged from the competition especially considering the fact that the level of confidence by the pupils has greatly improved,” he said.
Powered by Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), the project is now benefiting 25 primary schools selected from five regions which are Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Tanga, Mtwara and Mwanza.
