Water problems in Morogoro Municipality are expected to end in the near future as a 70 million Euro water project is expected to begin soon.
The Deputy Minister for Water, Mr Juma Aweso, said in Parliament yesterday that the government and France through her development arm, AFD, are expected to sign an agreement for the project’s funding.
The project would involve deepening the depth of Mindu dam, construction of a water treatment plant, expansion of water supply network and repairs of sewage dams.
He was responding to a question from Abdul Aziz Mohamed Abood (Morogoro Urban, CCM) who wanted to know when a water project promised by the government would materialise.
The deputy minister said the government, through MORUWASA, had prepared short-term and long-term plans for improving water supply services in the municipality.
For short-term plans, the government had implemented a project to improve water supply in Kihonda and Mkundi wards in the 2018/19 financial year, he said.
The project costs were 1.6bn/- and it benefitted 17,000 residents of Kihonda, Kilimanjaro, Kiegea and Kihonda North areas, he said.
