Ariel Glaser Pediatric Aids Healthcare Initiative (AGPAHI) has confirmed that their Communication and Advocacy Manager, Ms Agnes Kabigi, passed away in Kahama, Shinyanga early yesterday.
Speaking over the telephone yesterday afternoon, the AGPAHI Director, Dr. Sekela Mwakyusa said that the former veteran journalist travelled to Kahama as part of her usual activities, but her health condition changed abruptly on Thursday evening.
“She was asked if she will manage to continue working, and she assured her team that she was okay. But as they were heading to Kahama District Hospital for self-introductions, she suddenly fell down, and a few minutes later she was declared dead,” said Dr. Mwakyusa.
Her former tutor at the former Tanzania School of Journalism and who later became her boss at the Guardian Limited, Kiondo Mshana, described the fallen journalist as “a very hardworking lady and a seasoned human right activist.”
Before venturing into NGOs, the master degree holder from St. Augustine University in Dar es Salaam started her career at the Government Information Department (Habari-Maelezo), and later joined Uhuru Media Publications Ltd before moving to the Guardian Limited, which was her last media position before venturing into the world of NGOs.
