ABOUT 600 girls and women are expected to partake in various sports activities lined up to commemorate International Women’s Day at JMK Youth Park in Dar es Salaam tomorrow.
Some of the sports disciplines on the menu include basketball, netball, volleyball, football, dancing, aerobics, hockey and many others.
Briefing the ‘Daily News’ yesterday, organiser of the event Bainas Wamunza, who serves as Director of Women Basketball Development in Dar es Salaam, said everything is in place ahead of the eventful day.
“This is the second time we are enjoying the day (International Women’s Day) through embracing various sports activities which helps a lot to women themselves,” Wamunza said.
She added that the presence of many sports disciplines on the day will give girls and women an opportunity to choose the activity they want to take part bearing in mind that sports is vital for promoting people’s health.
“As you know, women are excluded in many sports activities but we want to assure the world that we have capacity to play any different sports discipline just like the way men do,” she added.
Furthermore, Wamunza said there will be inspiration speeches from women who have made it big in various sports profession.
She said: “The main purpose of inspiration talks is to implant sense of confidence to girls who will come so that they can learn fundamental steps they ought to take to reach big dreams of their lives.”
