THE NMB bank and other banking institutions have been challenged to establish centres of excellence in areas they were dishing out funds in support of different social services to win more public support and recognition.
Speaking at the handover ceremony of various supports provided by the NMB Bank in Igombe Village, Magu District at the weekend, the Magu District Commissioner Dr Philemon Sengati said the contributions of the banking sector was highly appreciated since they remain true partners in supporting development initiatives in the country.
However, he said renowned leading banks like NMB should go extra mile by supporting centres of excellence of their choice as they implement their Social and Corporate Responsibility (SCR) obligations.
“We will always appreciate different supports the NMB bank brings to our district from time to time but it’s high time an entity selected specific areas of excellence in our district where it could allocate massive support and ink a stable landmark,” said the DC.
Dr Sengati challenged other banking institutions to emulate NMB bank in supporting different development initiatives in his district since there were many areas in need of material and financial boosts from other development partners in complementing government commitments.
The DC’s remarks came shortly before NMB bank handed over donations worth 40m/- to the district in support of five primary schools and three health facilities including Igombe Dispensary whose part was unroofed by strong wind in November last year.
Donating the items, the NMB bank Manager for the Lake Zone Abraham Augustino said the institution has come out to support the facilities to the areas naming them as Igombe, Muya, Kinango, Nyasato and Lubugu Primary Schools as well as Igombe, Nsola and Inonelo dispensaries.
