AZAM FC Head Coach Hans Van Pluijm has said his side should fully charge the battery, if they want to defeat Kenya’s Gor Mahia in today’s CECAFA Kagame Cup semifinal clash at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The ‘Ice cream makers’ side kept their dreams of reaching into semis and probably into the final of the regional tournament alive, following a deserved 4-2 thumping of Rayon Sports from Rwanda.
Azam’s rising striker Shaaban Chilunda netted all the goals for his team in the 19th, 33rd, 39th and 64th minute respectively but it was his last match for the club as he is expected to travel to Spain, where he is set to join Second Division side Tenerife FC on loan.
It will be a repeat of the 2015 final of the same tournament in which, Azam emerged 2-0 winners to lift their first regional title, thanks to two decisive strikes from John Bocco and Ivorian striker Kipre Tchetche.
Mighty Azam lifted the glittering trophy without conceding a goal and at the same time, ending Gor Mahia’s unbeaten run in the tournament.
However, both teams have transformed a lot in terms of tactical play since they have lost key players and replaced them with new blood.
For instance, Meddie Kagere who was the main target man at Gor Mahia has been teamed up with his former opponent John Bocco at Simba, hence the match is totally unpredictable.
