NBC strengthens ties with Zanzibar’s Muslim community through engagement
ZANZIBAR: IN a meaningful reflection of community spirit and mutual respect, the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) is making waves in Zanzibar by cultivating deep and meaningful relationships with its Muslim clientele.
This commitment was recognized by the Speaker of the Zanzibar House of Representatives Zubeir Ali Maulid, during a heartwarming iftar gathering hosted by the bank.
This occasion not only underscored the essence of Ramadan-a time for reflection, compassion, and togetherness, but also highlighted NBC’s ongoing effort to ensure inclusivity thrives within the islands.
The splendid event unfolded over the weekend at the luxurious Hotel Verde, a venue that set the stage for a gathering of diverse individuals, including valued Islamic clients, prominent government figures, and devoted NBC staff members. This iftar was not merely a ceremonial breaking of fast; it stood as a monumental affirmation of the robust relationships cultivated by NBC and its stakeholders throughout this sacred month.
In an inspiring address, Speaker Zubeir eloquently expressed how NBC’s initiatives resonate deeply with the core tenets of Ramadan.
“NBC’s recognition of Ramadan as an essential aspect of our faith showcases an admirable commitment to nurturing community relationships. Tonight’s iftar is a cherished reminder of how engagement and goodwill can transform our connections, allowing us all to partake in the blessings that this holy month bestows upon us,” he asserted.
His words shone a light on how these meaningful connections not only foster trust but also play a pivotal role in the bank’s growth trajectory and its overall contribution to Zanzibar’s economic vitality.
According to the Speaker, this proactive engagement during Ramadan is a testament to NBC’s strategic positioning within Zanzibar’s banking ecosystem. By aligning its operations with the values of compassion and community, NBC is transforming itself from a mere service provider to a keystone partner in the inclusive economic development of the region. This transformative approach not only strengthens the fabric of society but also honors the traditions and aspirations of its diverse clientele.
“Through heartfelt initiatives like these, NBC is not just reinforcing its stature in the industry; it’s establishing a benchmark for responsible banking practices that resonate profoundly with the values of its customers. Indeed, as you continue to cultivate these meaningful connections, it forges a path toward a more inclusive and prosperous future for all,” he pointed out.
The evening also featured insights from NBC’s Chief Financial Officer, Mr Rayson Foya, who represented Managing Director Mr Theobald Sabi at the event. Mr. Foya shared captivating news about the bank’s remarkable growth, revealing an impressive leap in its customer base-from 22,196 last year to a staggering 34,942 this year.
“This surge is a direct reflection of our commitment to building lasting relationships with our clients, particularly through our Sharia-compliant financial products like ‘La’ Riba,’” he affirmed, indicating how these offerings resonate with the community’s values.
Mr Foya went on to introduce the recently launched ‘NBC Kiganjani App’ by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, an innovative platform that exemplifies NBC’s forward-thinking approach.
“Our app offers significant enhancements tailored to meet our clients’ needs, allowing them to open accounts remotely, make government payments (GEPG), purchase electricity (LUKU), and effortlessly manage their bill payments,” he elaborated.
