Mwinyi to grace 49th DITF official opening

DAR ES SALAAM: ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi is expected to officiate at the official opening of the 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) on July 7, 2025 at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Trade Fair Grounds (Sabasaba) along Kilwa Road in Dar es Salaam.

The annual exhibition, organised by the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade), officially kicked off on June 28, 2025 and will run through to July 13, 2025.

This year’s theme, “Tanzania: A Gateway for Regional and International Trade,” underscores the country’s strategic position in fostering economic cooperation through investment, industrialisation and innovation.

Speaking during a media briefing at the exhibition grounds on Wednesday, Minister for Industry and Trade, Dr Selemani Jafo, emphasised the fair’s growing role as a platform for economic diplomacy, attracting both local and international stakeholders.

“We have reached over 97 per cent of our target participation, with 3,501 local companies and 394 international companies registered, bringing the total number of exhibitors to 4,040,” said Dr Jafo.

He also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the global identity of Tanzanian products.

Key initiatives include the introduction of product certification marks, such as the ‘Tanzania Honey Brand Mark’ and the development of a national quality label, ‘Made in Tanzania’, aimed at boosting the global competitiveness of locally produced goods.

On her part, TanTrade Director General Ms Latifa Khamis expressed satisfaction with this year’s overwhelming response, revealing that online registration is still ongoing due to high demand.

“We have achieved a significant portion of our institutional goals and the success of this year’s event reflects the DITF’s growing relevance as a hub for trade and investment in Africa,” she said.

Ms Khamis further noted that the trade fair will feature several special programmes, including country-themed days to showcase national products and cultural offerings, as well as business-to-business (B2B) meetings aimed at connecting local and foreign entrepreneurs.

The official closing ceremony, scheduled for July 13, is expected to be officiated by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa.

The DITF, one of the largest trade exhibitions in the East African region, continues to provide a dynamic platform for exhibitors and investors to showcase innovations, expand market reach and explore strategic partnerships.
