ZANZIBAR government has signed an agreement with three companies to boost fish farming and other marine products in isles waters.
The signing of the agreement between the Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries and the three companies was witnessed by President Hussein Mwinyi.
The companies are Evergreen Egypt United, National Company for Fisheries and Aquaculture; and Source Link Ltd.
“This is another milestone in the fishing industry. We should expect huge changes in marine resources, and the government is committed to work with the private sector,” Dr Mwinyi said.
Dr Mwinyi explained briefly that Zanzibar economic policy focuses on the blue economy, thus “we need to make the best use of marine resources for the development of our economy. Engaging the private sector including foreign investors will make a big difference.”
Dr Aboud Suleiman Jumbe- Permanent Secretary (PS) said “The agreement will enable us to work together to achieve our goal in the Blue Economy as regards to marine resources. This is an opportunity for our people, particularly the young people.”
Major General Islam Rayan – Chairperson, Fishing and Seafood Company of Egypt, said they are ready to implement the project which includes provision of education on how to get better products from fish farming and other marine resources.
