Mwakinyo, Eribo clash in Dar today

DAR ES SALAAM: International boxer Hassan Mwakinyo today carries Tanzania’s flag into the ring as he faces Nigeria’s Stanley Eribo in the highly anticipated Boxing on Boxing Day bout scheduled for December 26, 2025, at the Warehouse Arena in Masaki, Dar es Salaam.
Mwakinyo, who led other fighters during the official weigh-in session, said he is fully prepared for the showdown and promised victory to Tanzanians.
Speaking shortly after the weigh-in, Mwakinyo said his preparations were thorough and that he is ready to face his opponent with full force.
“I have prepared very well for this fight. I have studied my opponent carefully and I assure Tanzanians of a convincing victory. I will step into the ring to fight for the honour of the nation,” said Mwakinyo.
Meanwhile, Tanzanian boxer Hamadi Furahisha said his preparations are complete ahead of his bout against Malawi’s Hanock Phiri.

“I know I am facing a tough opponent, but I am ready to give him a hard fight and entertain the fans,” said Furahisha.
On his part, Nigerian boxer Stanley Eribo said he has come to Tanzania with one mission to win the fight—insisting that while respect remains, the ring is all about combat.
“I have come to Tanzania for victory. There is respect, but once we enter the ring, it is a real fight and I will give it my all,” said Eribo.
In the women’s category, Tanzanian boxer Debora Mwenda said she is ready to represent the country proudly in her bout against Malawi’s Mariam Dick.
“I have trained hard and I understand the magnitude of this fight. I am ready to represent Tanzanian women and fight for victory,” said Debora.
Peak Time Events Coordinator, Bakari Hatibu, said preparations for the event are 90 percent complete, with all boxers ready to enter the ring.
“All boxers have arrived safely and preparations are almost complete. What remains is for fans to turn up in large numbers to witness an exciting end-of-year boxing spectacle,” said Hatibu.
Other bouts scheduled for the night include a clash between Ally Ngwando and Mussa Makuka, with all fights expected to deliver thrilling entertainment to boxing fans.
