MUSOMA Rural residents have expressed gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her continued efforts to address water blues in their areas by implementing various mega water projects.
They particularly hailed the President for approving enough funds for the implementation of water projects in four wards which ensure availability of reliable clean and safe water.
The wards with a total of 12 villages are embracing tap water projects derived from Lake Victoria and so far, 70.5bn/- has been allocated to implement Mugango, Kiabakari and Butiama water projects.
This project has the capacity to produce 35 million litres of water per day and water pumping machines which are being manufactured in China, Hungary and Turkey are set to arrive in the country soon.
Recently, Musoma Rural Constituency Member of Parliament Professor Sospeter Muhongo visited Tegeruka and Mugango wards to inspect a 4.75bn/- water infrastructure construction projects in the two areas.
Prof Muhongo thanked President Samia and her government for taking deliberate measures to improve water services.
A 15-kilometre water drainage system has been dug and installation of pipes is expected to unfold soon and a 135,000 litres tank is being installed at Kataryo village. It will be receiving water from a 3 million litres tank located at Kiabakari village.
Similarly, in Busambara and Kiriba wards, six villages are set to benefit from a 500,000 litres tank which has been installed at Kong’u Mountain in Kwibara village.
The construction of tap water distribution channels in the wards is slated to commence in August this year, revealed Prof Muhongo.
The 3rd National Five-Year Development Plan (FYDP III) focuses on improving the availability and distribution of water supplies and sanitation services in urban and rural areas, and protection of water sources and resource environment.
The Plan highlights a number of key interventions to be taken by the government including strengthening supply infrastructures for clean and safe water; establishing and strengthening the Community Based Water Supply Organisations (CBWSOs) for enhancing sustainability of rural water supply and sanitation services.
