Morale boost for Taifa Stars players ahead of Morocco duel
RABAT: The Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, has said Tanzania is ready to shock the world by making history with a victory over Morocco in the Round of 16 match of the AFCON finals, as they head to face hosts Morocco tomorrow, January 4, 2026, in Rabat.
Makonda made the remarks during a meeting with the players and the technical bench of Taifa Stars in Rabat, as part of efforts to motivate the team ahead of the crucial encounter.
He said Taifa Stars have every reason to believe they can secure victory regardless of Morocco’s status and football history, urging the players to fight with discipline and commitment on the pitch to achieve a positive result against the host nation.

“We are going into a big match, but I have faith in this squad. Do not be distracted by the noise from Moroccan fans. Believe that all Tanzanians are behind you and fully support you,” Makonda said.
Taifa Stars will face Morocco tomorrow in the AFCON 2025 Round of 16, marking the first time the team has reached this stage of the competition.
