Mineral week starts in Mwanza today

MINERAL exhibition week kicks off in Mwanza region today, acting as the platform for all mining stakeholders to exchange experience and technical know-how to boost the country’s mining sector, as they eye on positioning the country as the hub for minerals business in Africa.
The exhibition is organised by the Federation of Miners Association of Tanzania (FEMETA) and is expected to last until on May 9th this year. According to the organisers, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa is expected to grace the closing of the exhibition occasion.
FEMETA President, Mr John Bina made the statement yesterday, saying that a special night gala will be organised, whereby key contributors for development of the mining sector in the country will be recognised with the Minister for Minerals, Dr Doto Biteko.
Mr Bina expressed FEMATA’s desire on modernisation of the country’s mining sector via collaborative efforts with all stakeholders, including small miners, processors, traders, citizens and the government at large, coming together with workable ideas and technology to push the mining sector forward.
“The exhibition will bring stakeholders from every corner of our country and abroad, we want to create awareness on potential minerals presence in our country including Tanzanite and Lithium,” Mr Bina said.
US firm – Titan Lithium has found lithium deposits in two locations south of Mount Kilimanjaro that have the potential to make Tanzania one of the world’s leading countries in lithium production. The results of the initial soil geochemical samplings conducted by the company showed high lithium grades of up to 2.79 per cent lithium oxide.
Mr Bina said the exhibition will go alongside cross sectional discussion of key mining issues in the mining sector relating to marketing and extraction thinking collectively to discover the possibility of fastening the country’s mining transformation from using rudimentary machines to the sophisticated to maximize output.
Mr Bina commended the government efforts on promoting the mining sector through various ways including good policies formulation as well as advertisement of the country via film including the Royal Tour Film that has attracted tremendous investors across the country to come and set their business here.
The 2023 minerals exhibition is themed “Tanzania Available Peace should be used as a source of economic opportunities, Tanzania to be the hub of minerals business in the country”.
Kaeser Compressors Limited’s Executive Sales and Marketing, Ms Mairitha Safari, of the company based in Germany selling mining sophisticated machines including portable compressors in the country thanked FEMETA for organising the notable minerals events.
She said it is time to increase efficiency in the sector by adopting modern machines so that small miners among others can operate profitably.
