THE government is set to embark on construction of Lumecha-Londo road in Namtumbo District, Ruvuma Region to a tarmac level this year.
Ruvuma Regional Manager for Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) Engineer Elphatar Mlavi made the revelation here yesterday.
He said the work will involve the construction of 512 kilometres part of that linking Ruvuma and Morogoro region.
“We are in the final stages of going through the contractors’ bids opened August 2022,” he said, adding that the road project will be implemented under engineering, procurement, Construction and financing form.
He said the work construction is expected to start as soon as the remaining implementation plans are settled.
In another development, Eng Mlavi said TANROADS in Ruvuma has plans to start construction of Songea-Litukira road to tarmac level.
The work will involve the construction of part of 111 kilometres that connect the region with Mtwara Corridor.
Eng Mlavi said the government has already signed an agreement with the World Bank to facilitate the implementation of the road.
According to Eng Mlavi the work will also involve construction of 14 kilometres for Songea bypass road, 97 kilometres Songea-Lutukira road in Madaba area.
The construction of the roads will help link Ruvuma with the Njombe Region. He said the Ruvuma is currently connected to Njombe through a road in Nyasa District to Ludewa in Njombe.
According to Eng Mlavi, TANROADS in Ruvuma Region requested 41bn/- for road construction during the financial year 2022/2023, saying the government has already settled 28bn/- to facilitate the construction of roads in the region.
