Kalambo DC tells councillors to stop collecting revenue

THE Kalambo District Council in the Rukwa Region has been challenged to stick to its core responsibility of supervising and assessing revenue collections instead of involving themselves in the collections.

The Kalambo District Commissioner (DC), Mr Lazaro Komba, gave the advice recently during a recent councillors meeting held in the small town of Matai saying the main responsibility of councillors was to closely supervise and assess revenue collections instead of engaging in collection for personal gains.

“I should remind you councillors, among your other duties are mainly to supervise and assess revenue collections…. Let’s make it clear if you engage in collecting revenue who will be asked for the losses of the collected revenues,” warned the DC.

DC Komba further urged the civil servants and councillors to consider and maintain the power structure to enhance desired performance.

“I can assure you if every individual would deliver his duties diligently without interference with other responsibilities, then revenue collection in this council will improve considerably,” added Mr Komba.

The DC further directed the District Executive Director (DED), Mr Shafii Mpenda to deal squarely with revenue collectors who collect the revenue but don’t deposit the money immediately in banks as required.

The District Council Chairman, Mr Daudi Sichone advised councillors to make close-up supervision of those who have been entrusted with collecting the revenues.
