Iran announces scholarships for Tanzanians

Islamic Republic of Iran Embassy in the country has said it ready to provide scholarships to Tanzanians who wish to study various courses including engineering.

Speaking at a commemoration event of Iran’s Day held at Saba Saba grounds recently, where the 47th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DIFT) , Iran’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Hussein Behineh said the Western Asian country has been providing scholarships to Tanzania nationals for four decades now, thanks to existing good diplomatic relation between the two countries.

“Iran provided scholarship for Tanzanian student from four decades ago…hundreds of Tanzanians educated through these scholarships in human resources, engineering and other areas. Iran is ready to provide more scholarships to Tanzanian student in required fields,” the diplomat said.

According to Ambassador Behineh, the oil rich state is a leading country in west Asia in terms of science and a home of 2,569 universities and higher education centers in Iran with nearly four million students.

Of approximately four million students who are studying in different fields up to PhD level in Iran, he elaborated, about 94,000 are foreigners coming from 129 countries in the world.

“So, from every aspect, Iran is a very good place for Tanzanian students to studying in Iran,” the envy insisted.

The Ambassador said Iran’s new government under President Ebrahim Raisi intends to expand our relations with African countries including Tanzania as “an old friend and important country in east Africa.”

“Last but not the least the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Tanzania is ready to make every effort to develop relations between the two countries and strengthen relations and connections between the business communities of Iran and Tanzania,” he added.

Meanwhile, Tantrade board chair Prof Ulingeta Mbamba said the sixth phase government under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan threw weight behind improvement of the business environment as he welcomed investors from Iran to explore various opportunities available in the country.

On her part, TanTrade Director General encouraged Tanzanians to explore business opportunities in Iran which is doing well in the areas of biomedical technologies, extractive industry and education.

Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) is an annual event organised by TanTrade in collaboration with public and private sectors.

DITF has positioned itself as an international trade promotion platform considered to be the largest of its kind in the Eastern and Central African Region in terms of the number of exhibitors and visitors.

It has been designed to facilitate exhibitors to showcase and demonstrate their goods, services and technology, attain new markets and explore new markets and investment opportunities.
