IT was a thrilling moment for Paul Griffin and the Sea Cliff Resort & Spa Golf Course of Mangapwani, Zanzibar after golfer and the course recorded first ‘hole- in- one’ since it was established.
Designed by South African golf expert, the golf course was officially opened by Zanzibar President Ali Mohamed Shein in February 2015, since then no any golfer managed to hit hole in one.
Though, Elias Soka, the club’s general manager told the ‘Daily News ’ from Zanzibar yesterday that the course saw its first hole through Griffin who converted during the Monthly Mug tournament held recently at the course.
In golf, a hole-in-one occurs when a single shot from a tee goes directly into the hole. “On behalf of the club I want to complement Griffin for converting his first hole-in- one on our signature hole par 3 hole number 9,” said Soka.
Griffin was all but happy also to reach the golf mark after playing for over 40 years. He was quoted as saying: “I’ve been playing golf, on and off, for almost 40 years now, but in all that time I have never managed a hole-in-one.
“Until arriving on the 9th tee of the Sea Cliff Golf Course, Zanzibar I was having a great round and only one over par!” The Monthly Mug, according to Soka, was generously sponsored by Sea Cliff Resort & Spa, Zanzibar, ZMMI Wines & Spirits, Auric Air Service Ltd and Hotel Verde Zanzibar bringing together local and foreign golfers.
