ZANZIBAR’s Best Eight League raged on two venues on Tuesday with Jamhuri handing Hard Rock a 2-1 defeat in a thrilling game held at Gombani Stadium in Pemba.
Jamhuri were the first to post an opener in the 23rd minute through a spot kick following a foul play inside the danger zone, and Ahmed Ally expertly converted it. But their lead lasted only four minutes as Hard Rock’s Makame Shariff made it 1-1 with a perfect strike.
The teams completed the first half tied on a 1-1 draw despite presence of several raids on the both sides, but none of them changed the stalemate. It was Jamhuri who lasted laugh after scoring the second goal in the 52nd minute through Hamoud Abdulrahman.
The goal lasted until the end of the thrilling 90 minutes. Zimamoto are still leading the league having posted 10 points, followed by KVZ with nine points. Following their victory, Jamhuri have moved up to the fourth position after collecting eight points.
Also among the tough contenders for the Isles Premier League title are JKU also with eight points.
