POLICE in Rukwa region have arrested three people for allegedly being in possession of heroin weighing 900 grams wrapped separately in two packages.
The Rukwa Regional Police Commander (RPC), Mr George Kyando, however was not ready to reveal the names of the suspects for fear that the ongoing preliminary investigations will be tampered with.
He however hinted that one of the suspects is a bus conductor residing at Jangwani area in the municipality aged 29 years old, a bus ticket operator who is a resident of Bangwe area aged 32 years old and a tout aged 30 years old who resides in Majengo area here in the municipality.
According to the RPC, the trio was nabbed on March 13 this year at around noon at the Sumbawanga main bus terminal in possession of the said narcotic drugs hidden in a passenger’s bus with registration numbers T 789 DJB. Mr Kyando said that the bus was heading to Ulumi village bordering Zambia in Sumbawanga district from Sumbawanga Town.
According to the RPC, the suspects will be arraigned in court soon after preliminary investigation of their case is over.
Meanwhile, Commander Kyando urged wananchi in the area to refrain from peddling and abusing narcotic drugs, and instead they should actively engage on agricultural activities to improve their income through legal activities.
In the same vein, the RC warned all people who are involved in illicit businesses to stop at once because Rukwa region is not a place for such business.
