Impart good values to children, VP tells parents

THE Vice-President Dr Philip Mpango has urged parents and guardians to raise children based on Tanzanian values, whilst stressing that they pay attention to the content shown on television.

Dr Mpango made the statement on Thursday immediately after he participated in a church service at the Virgin Mary Queen of Peace Parish led by Father Joseph Mashaka at Kisumo village in Kigoma Region.

He said currently, there is a great challenge of moral decay, adding that it is high time for the society to strongly condemn ill behaviours for the betterment of future generations.

“It is clear that there is the challenge of moral decay in our society … parents, guardians and society in general should strongly rebuke them, to get rid of a behavour that is not suitable for current and future generations,” Dr Mpango said.

On the other hand, the VP called on the people of Kisumo and Kigoma Region in general, to cultivate a sense of ownership of infrastructures provided to them by the government.

He said it was imperative for everyone to protect construction material of road infrastructure in the region, which is an important factor for business to thrive and provide easiest access to social services including hospitals and schools.

“Please, let us try our best to have a sense of ownership over these ventures in our areas to complement efforts made by the government to improve the living standards of our people,” he told them.

The Vice-President also told the local community to cooperate with investors by considering the real prices of land in their areas to attract more investments, adding that they should also dedicate all their energy in supporting implementations of various development projects in the village including health services.

In a related development, Dr Philip Mpango said that the completion of Kabingo-Kasulu-Manyovu 260.6-kilometre road construction will open the economic activities in Kigoma Region as well as neighbouring countries.

Dr Mpango made the remarks on Wednesday during the meeting with the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Capital Investment. The meeting at Misunzu in Kibondo District was converged to inspect the progress of the construction of various projects in the Kigoma Region.

He said that the road is the savior of Kigoma through business activities with Shinyanga and Mwanza regions as well as Burundi.

He said its completion will stimulate the development of the region and the country as a whole, adding that the goal of the government is to see Kigoma Region develop as quickly as possible.

Moreover, Dr Mpango instructed the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) and Kigoma regional government to closely supervise the contractor, to ensure that the road is completed on time and to the appropriate standards.

He further noted that the government will continue to work on parliamentary committee’s advices and urged them to continue highlighting the areas that government needs to make more improvements.

For his part, the Chairman of the committee, Jerry Silaa congratulated the government for setting up mega and productive investments in the region that will bring economic and social benefits to the people.

He said that at present, they have witnessed the region making progress in the energy and infrastructure sectors, including railways and roads, adding that the investment of public capital has been done correctly and productivity has started to be realised.

He also called on the people of Kigoma to continue supporting the government, because great work is being done and the concept of ‘Kazi iendelee’ has been seen in action.
