How 2tri/- development funds uplifted Mbeya
MBEYA: The Mbeya Region has achieved remarkable progress under the sixth-phase administration, securing over 2.12tri/- for extensive improvements and construction of social and infrastructure development.
Mbeya Regional Commissioner Mr Juma Homera revealed this when outlining the successes recorded made by the region in the three years under the sixth-phase government led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
RC Homera stated that all sectors, including education, health, agriculture, and infrastructure development, have seen significant improvements.
In the education sector, the region received a total of 63.627bn/-, leading to a revolutionized learning environment with innovative projects such as the construction of 464 new classrooms.
Also, eight new secondary schools, including a special school for girls, were built at a total cost of 4.7bn/- These schools have already admitted Form One students for the current academic year.
Mr Homera revealed that more than 42 school buildings have been completed, significantly reducing the financial burden on parents for infrastructure development.
The region has also established vocational training centers (VETA) in Mbarali and Chunya districts, with plans underway for a third center in Rungwe District. This strategic move aims to empower the local workforce with valuable skills and expertise.
In terms of health projects, the region received 77.67bn/-, resulting in significant infrastructure development in hospitals, health centers, and the acquisition of medicine and medical equipment.
Notably, the government allocated 17.75bn/- for the construction of the maternity and pediatric block at Meta Hospital.
Emphasizing the importance of agricultural development, Homera commended the allocation of 98bn/- from the central government to finance more than eight irrigation projects. This significant investment aims to boost food security and enhance agricultural productivity in the region.
Other regional and district leaders also expressed their gratitude for the substantial support received from the central government. They cited improvements in healthcare infrastructure, education, and economic activities that have tangible benefits for local communities.
Chunya District Executive Director (DED), Tamimu Kambona, stated that they received 2.6bn/- from the government and contributed 1.4bn/- from local revenues to successfully facilitate the construction of an administrative building, the district hospital, and five health centers.
Renatus Mchau, the Director of Rungwe DED, commended the sixth-phase government for allocating 2bn/- for the construction of a two-story building at Makandana District Hospital. Additionally, the government provided 2bn/- for the construction of health centers in Kiimo and Iponjolo wards.
Mchau also highlighted the district’s plans to establish new health centers in Malindo Ward using internal revenue. The council has successfully built eight dispensaries, utilizing 300m/-, and spent 600m/- to procure medical equipment.
