Hersi cherishes Yanga solidarity

YOUNG Africans President Hersi

YOUNG Africans President Hersi Said reiterated that the success of the team in both domestic and international competitions is a result of coordinated efforts within the club.

His sentiments came after seeing the Jangwani street side claiming a worthy 1-0 away win over  TP Mazembe in their last CAF Confederation Cup group stage match at TP Mazembe Stadium in DR Congo over the weekend.

The victory enabled Yanga to finish the group stage mission on top of group D with 13 points similar to US Monastir who also accumulated 13 points but inferior goal average has put them on the second spot.

Yanga have converted nine goals against eight goals netted by the Tunisian giants and both sides have conceded four goals.

“We are thankful to God because it was a very important game for us to get good results and this shows how serious we are in the Confederation Cup.

“We came here for that purpose and we have managed to make a bold statement, I am not sure if any of the Tanzanian team has succeeded to win here,” he said.

He added that their focus now is to do well in their upcoming Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) as well as in the Premier League.

Furthermore, he pointed out that they are  poised to continue making records in the quarterfinals phase of the competition to scale up the country’s football status.

“We have played our part as management to reach this far and the good thing is that players are also working hard on the ground to facilitate the victory,” he said.

He also seized the platform to acknowledge Yanga fans who travelled to Lubumbashi, Congo to support the team saying they were pivotal in the recorded success.

“Their support has been vital and each part has executed well its required roles thereby leading to the desired achievements,” he said.

On his part, Yanga striker Fiston Mayele said he was a bit upset for not scoring on the day insisting that his father and mother were present at the venue.

“Of course, I wanted to score but this is football and it happens that sometimes, things do not go according to plan but the good thing is that we have won,” he said.

He further insisted they will work hard to go past the quarterfinals phase as they want to stamp more success in the Confederation Cup.

However, in another group D match played on Sunday night, US Monastir defeated Real Bamako 2-1 as the latter finished in third place with 5 points from six matches while TP Mazembe are at the bottom with 3 points.
