Harness expo gains, stakeholders urged
DAR ES SALAAM: THE Chairperson of the Mining Commission, Dr Janet Lekashingo, has called on stakeholders to seize opportunities presented by the 25th International Building, Construction and Mining Trade Exhibition, describing it as a bridge connecting people, industries and nations.
Speaking during the official opening of the exhibition on Thursday, Dr Lekashingo stressed the need to embrace innovation and sustainable practices in order to build a greener and more prosperous future.
“The exhibition stands as a platform for transformation, showcasing solutions that will shape industries, create jobs and protect the environment,” she said.
Dr Lekashingo also urged stakeholders to embed strong Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies to ensure that investments deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
“We must ask ourselves: How has Tanzanian society benefited from these investments? Only then can we build a legacy of sustainability and prosperity,” she emphasised.
Dr Lekashingo encouraged closer collaboration between the Ministry of Minerals, local service providers and international investors to establish new industries and strengthen operations in special economic zones.
She said that the mining and construction sectors already contribute significantly to Tanzania’s economy, accounting for 10.1 and 11.5 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) respectively and directly or indirectly employing over 1.2 million Tanzanians.
On her part, Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TANTRADE) Director General Dr Latifa Khamis, said that there is a critical role of trade fairs and exhibitions in opening international markets for Tanzanian products.
“TANTRADE remains committed to being the bridge that connects Tanzania’s leadership, entrepreneurs and innovators to global markets. Events like this exhibition attract investors from more than 30 countries, strengthen partnerships and promote technology transfer that is vital for sustainable growth,” said Dr Khamis.

He said, “It is a platform for young Tanzanians to learn modern professional skills, interact with global experts and position themselves for the jobs of tomorrow.”
Furthermore, the Director General of the Chamber of Construction Industry of Tanzania (CCIT), Mr Steven Mkomwa, praised Tanzania’s commitment to transparent policies and a stable investment climate.
“The government’s dedication to transparency and contract security gives international investors’ confidence. This is an ideal environment to introduce new technologies and expand markets across East Africa,” said Mr Mkomwa.
With exhibitions featuring cutting-edge machinery, digital solutions and artificial intelligence applications, the event showcases how technology can enhance productivity and reduce operational costs.
The International Building, Construction and Mining Trade Exhibition 2025 will run until 26 September in Dar es Salaam, offering a platform for investors, innovators and policymakers to create partnerships that support inclusive growth and shared prosperity.
