Govt to conduct research on high level malnutrition

THE government in collaboration with the Big Win Philanthropy (BWP) from the United States is planning to conduct a research on the causes of high levels of malnutrition.

This was revealed in Dodoma recently by the Minister of State, Presidents’ Office Regional Administrations and Local Governments, Angellah Kairuki, after meeting and holding a session with the agency’s representatives.

The aim of the session was to plan a strategy to conduct a survey on the causes of high levels of malnutrition among children under the age of five, especially in the regions that produce adequate food.

She said that the research is expected to take place this month, and that it was in line with the implementation of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s instructions who signed the nutrition agreement with Regional Commissioners (RCs).

Ms Kairuki said that the results of the study will be used to prepare a programme to combat malnutrition in Tanzania and that the report of the study will be presented to the President.

She said that in Tanzania Mainland the research will be carried out in Iringa, Njombe, Dar es Salaam, Tabora, Mtwara and Geita regions and in the Isles it will be carried out in North Unguja and North Pemba.
