Govt: Strengthen measures against human trafficking

ZANZIBAR: INSTITUTIONS tasked with preventing and combating human trafficking in Zanzibar have been urged to adopt innovative and stronger strategies to address the root causes of the crime, which continues to affect women and children the most.

The call was made by Director of Government Coordination in the Office of the Second Vice-President, Ms Siajabu Suleiman Pandu, during a meeting of government stakeholders held in Zanzibar.

Ms Pandu said enhanced collaboration among government institutions is crucial in strengthening the fight against human trafficking.

She also urged members of the public to report suspected trafficking incidents to relevant authorities to enable swift action.

Senior Officer at the AntiHuman Trafficking Secretariat, Mr Rafii Said Mnete, said the government, through the Secretariat, has put in place various measures to prevent and respond to trafficking cases across the country.

Meanwhile, Secretariat’s Deputy Coordinator for the Zanzibar Zone, Ms Huzaimat Bakar Kheir, said the meeting aimed at enhancing cooperation among institutions in tackling human trafficking and strengthening joint interventions.
