Govt: Geita can produce 45 ml litres of water every day

GEITA: THE government through the Geita Water and Sanitation Authority in Geita (Geuwasa) is planning to construct a plant capable of producing 45 million litres of water per day in Geita, to end water problems for the residents of the area.

The project is part of a national project of 28 cities implemented by the government, where 53.4 million US dollars (about 124.bn/-) have been allocated to the Geita Region.

Geuwasa Executive Director, Engineer Frank Changawa briefed residents about the project report recently during an event to provide compensation payment for some residents of Senga Street in Geita who vacated their land to pave way for a water treatment plant project.

He said that execution of the project started in April 2023 and is expected to be completed in October 2025. It will expect to produce water twice the current demand of Geita town, which is 22 million litres per day.

“So, we will have enough water when this project is completed, all 13 wards of Geita town will benefit along with 19 villages. “We are going to pay compensation amounting to 65m/- to 22 people who will be affected.

This project is implemented by the contractor namely AFCOS company from India and the expert consultant in charge is the WAPCOS company from India too,” explained Eng Changawa.

Geita District Commissioner, Mr Cornel Magembe congratulated Geuwasa for their performance and asked the citizens to support the government’s efforts in protecting the water infrastructures.
