THE government has allocated over 8.11bn/- for water sector development in Rukwa Region through Rukwa Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) in efforts to increase water availability in the area.
RUWASA Rukwa Regional Manager, Eng Boaz Matundali said here at the weekend that, during 2021/2022 about 53 water projects will be executed out of which 14 projects are funded by National Water Fund (NWF), six projects are funded by central government, World Bank’s Programme for Results (P4R) is funding 24 projects while nine projects are funded by Payment by Result (PbR),”
He further explained that until December last year, the region has a population of 1,175,967 citizens in rural areas whose actual demand of water supply stands at 23,519,340 liters per day but only 783,476 population of people have access of clean water being an equivalent to 58 per cent.
Eng. Matundali clarified that water availability for Sumbawanga municipal population has reached 86 per cent.
“Rukwa Region has 339 villages out of which 201 have access to clean water supply, the remaining 138 were yet to access clean water,” he said.
