GGML conducts free health screenings, identifies health concerns at OSHA 2024 Exhibition

ARUSHA:Over 200 individuals in Arusha availed themselves for health screenings facilitated by Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) at the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) 2024 exhibition.

Among the attendees, several cases of overweight were identified, prompting proactive intervention by GGML’s occupational health specialist, Dr. Cretus Karwani.

Dr. Karwani revealed that while no instances of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection were detected, one participant exhibited symptoms of chest pain and was promptly referred to Mount Meru Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

At the GGML pavilion, comprehensive health assessments were conducted, encompassing measurements of weight, height, and screenings for various ailments including diabetes, hypertension, and HIV/AIDS.

“One individual, a young woman, presented with lowered blood pressure and sugar levels, attributed to irregular meal timings.

Immediate first aid was administered, accompanied by guidance to consume soup and ample water,” stated Dr. Karwani.

Dr. Karwani emphasized that visitors to the GGML pavilion gained insights into the company’s robust health services framework for employees.

Prospective employees undergo rigorous health assessments prior to commencement, ensuring their fitness for assigned roles.

Additionally, regular health monitoring, encompassing measurements of vital signs and sensory functions, is conducted annually to maintain employee well-being.

Continuous monitoring of workplace conditions, including noise levels and exposure to hazardous substances, further safeguards employee health and safety.

Mussa Abdalah, a beneficiary of GGML’s health services, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to access free health screenings and valuable information on workplace health and safety.

“These tests are provided at no cost, and we are immensely appreciative of this service,” remarked Abdalah, a resident of Moshono in the region.

GGML’s commitment to fostering a culture of health and safety extends beyond its workforce, exemplified by its proactive engagement with the community to promote overall well-being.

Through initiatives like the health screenings at the OSHA exhibition, GGML continues to make meaningful contributions towards enhancing public health and safety awareness in Arusha and beyond.
