AS preparation for the 4th edition of the Galinoma Memorial golf tournament gathers momentum, the organisers have named CCM’s Vice-Chairman (Mainland), Abdulrahman Kinana as its chief guest.
The 18-hole tournament is scheduled to tee off at the par-72 Tanzania People’s Defense Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club of Dar es Salaam on April 29th this year.
Organised by the Galinoma family in collaboration with the Lugalo Club, the tournament commemorates the former Lugalo Golf Club chairman, late Brigadier General (rtd) Ernest Galinoma.
The senior golfer Galinoma died at Muhimbili Referral Hospital in the city on April 17th , 2016, and was laid to rest at Kalenga Village in Iringa.
One of the organisers, Alex Galinoma said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that preparation for the tournament is in top gear.
Alex confirmed Kinana will be a chief guest at the event open for men, ladies and junior players.
“On behalf of the family, I want to invite all golfers to take part in this year’s Galinoma Memorial tournament,” he urged.
However, the organisers appeal for the companies, institutions, and individual sports well-wishers to come forward to assist them in staging a successful event that now has gained popularity.
It has been six years since Galinoma passed away, but the family organises his memorial event for the fourth year. It was brought back last year as it could not be held in recent years due to the global coronavirus pandemic crisis.
“We are happy to invite golfers to come and play on this special day, the door is open for those wishing to sponsor the event to commemorate our beloved Father who loved golfers so much during his lifetime,” he added.
He said registration for those wishing to participate in the event is already open.
During his life, Galinoma was also a good supporter of ladies’ golf as he helped the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) to organise the first-ever international golf tournament, the East and Central Africa Ladies Challenge Trophy at Lugalo course in 2011 and was also the founder of the junior programme at the club.
Nsajingwa Mwansasu who netted 69 strokes, is the defending champion after winning the last year’s title just four months after his golf career.
