Fuel prices maintain upward trend

TANZANIA: PUMP prices of petroleum products for various towns, districts, and regions in the country have increased this month on account of high world oil prices.

This was revealed by the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) through the Cap Prices report published on Wednesday.

The changes in petroleum prices are attributed to the increase in world oil prices by an average of 3.94 per cent for premium motor spirit and 2.34 per cent for automotive gas oil.

Also, the changes are attributed to an increase in the exchange rate by 3.19 per cent due to the use of the Euro for the payment of imported petroleum products.

According to EWURA, the premiums for the importation of petroleum products through Dar es Salaam Port declined by 4.28 per cent for premium motor spirit and increased by 0.76 per cent for automotive gas oil. The prices for petrol and diesel imported through the Tanga Port increased by 13.73 per cent in Mtwara Port rose by 12.71 per cent.

In Dar es Salaam, petrol will be sold at a retail price of 3,257/-per litre compared to 3,163/- last month, while diesel is 3,210/- per litre compared to 3,126/- per litre in March.

Kerosene’s price in Dar es Salaam remained at 2,840/-. In the Tanga Region, petrol prices rose to 3,303/- per litre from 3,209/- in March, while diesel prices jumped to 3,256/- from 3,173/- in the preceding month with the kerosene price maintaining the price of 2886/- .

Motorists in Kyerwa District in Kagera Region will have to dig deeper for the month under review, where they will pay 3,495/- per litre compared to 3,401/- last month while diesel price increased to 3,448/- per litre compared to 3,364/- in March.

According to EWURA, in Kibondo Town, Kigoma Region petrol price stands at 3,426/- per litre compared to 3,332/- the previous month while diesel increased to 3,379/- per litre compared to 3,296/- in March.
