Fire guts Mugeza Secondary School dormitory

KAGERA: A DORMITORY with capacity to accommodate 100 students at Mugeza secondary school in Bukoba Municipality was on Tuesday night gutted by fire, causing a loss yet to be determined.

However, no casualties were reported.

Headmaster of the school, Mr Latino Rwehabura, explained that the fire broke out at around 8.30pm while 58 students in forms Four (30) and 28 others in Form Two were in classes studying.

“The dormitory has a capacity to accommodate about 100 students. Some of the students are on leave while 58 students in Form Four (30) and 28 others in Form Two were in classes studying. Most of the students’ properties including mattresses were completely destroyed. However, there were no casualties,” he said.

The Tanzania Fire and Rescue Force (TFRF) Acting Regional Manager, Senior Superintendent George Mruto, on the other hand, said investigations were in progress to determine the cause of the fire.

A few weeks ago, a dormitory at Omumwani secondary school, in Bukona Municipal was also gutted by fire.
