POLICE in Tanga Region have arrested eight people on suspicion of burglary, theft, and armed robbery.
The Regional Police Commander, Henry Mwaibambe, told journalists in a press conference held here that the suspects were apprehended between January and April this year.
According to the RPC, efforts to apprehend the suspects were made through special operations and on-going manhunt conducted in all districts of the region.
“There were reported incidents of burglary and theft in January which made the police to embark on special operations to arrest the suspects involved,” he said.
The RPC identified the suspects as Akida Faki allias Akida Bichwa, of Mikanjuni (43), Dickson Mayunga(45) a resident of Kwaluguye Muheza), Ally Rashid (37) who reside at Michungwani Handeni , Hussein Mtambo (27), from Gwitini, Muheza , and Salami Rasi (27) of Tangasisi.
Other suspects are Ally Kaguta (25), Edward Gosi (23), and Emanuel Msagati (33) all residents of Usagara.
He said through the operation, Police managed to recover three locally made pistols, four televisions, and 18 smartphones.
The police urged Tanga residents to continue cooperating with them by providing information on crimes and criminals in order to strengthen the region’s peace and security.
