Dr Samia rewards Taifa Stars 500m/- for qualifying for the Round of 16

DAR ES SALAAM: THE President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, has awarded the national football team, Taifa Stars, 500m/- after they successfully qualified for the Round of 16 at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco.

The reward was announced by Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba during a phone call with the players and the technical bench, when they were visited by the Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda.

Dr Nchemba said President Samia has also promised to give an even bigger reward if Tanzania advances to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

It should be noted that tomorrow, January 4, 2026, Taifa Stars will face the hosts Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 a.m. local time.

Taifa Stars and Sudan are now the only representatives from the CECAFA Zone remaining in the competition after Uganda was eliminated.

The team, coached by Miguel Gamondi, made history by finishing third in Group C and advancing as one of the best third-placed teams.

They are now being tipped to break another record by reaching the quarter-finals.
