Dr Samia graces the construction of 15 oil tanks amid shocks in the global oil market

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIAN President, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, has today, March 3, 2026,   laid the foundation stone for the Oil Receiving and 15 Storage Tanks Construction Project at the Port of Dar es Salaam in Kigamboni, and instructed the project to ensure it meets international safety and petroleum storage standards.

She insisted that in order to position Tanzania as a strong energy trade hub in the East and Central African region.

Speaking earlier today, the Head of State said the contractors and consultants must uphold quality, professionalism, and efficiency in its execution so that both the government and citizens fully benefit from the major investment.

Additionally, she stressed the importance for the project being implemented at a high standard and completed within the scheduled timeframe.

Moreover, President Samia pointed to the need for the establishment of a Strategic Petroleum Reserve, noting that the reserve would play an essential role in enabling the country to withstand global market shocks and political changes that may affect fuel supply and prices.

“Maintaining adequate reserves would help stabilize domestic fuel prices and minimize the impact on citizens and productive sectors,” she said.

Furthermore, she directed institutions responsible for ports and revenue collection, including the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), to work closely together to streamline and strengthen verification systems for fuel consignments entering the country to ensure the use of modern and transparent systems that enhance efficiency, safeguard national revenue, and curb revenue leakages.
