DCEA nabs heroin, cannabis on joint operations
THE Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) has seized over 200 kilograms of heroin, 978 sacks of dry cannabis and 5,465 kilos of raw cannabis that were ready to be shipped.
Statement issued on Monday by the DCEA said the authority also managed to seize 1.5 kilograms of processed cannabis, 531.43 grams of methamphetamine, 3878 pieces of heroin, 138 of cocaine and 3840 milliliters of drugs with the addictive nature of pethidine.
DCEA collaborated with other defence forces to conduct the special operation in Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Arusha and the Coastal regions where they also burnt 1,093 acres of cannabis fields.
However, the authority also collaborated with the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) to prevent a total of 1,507.46 kilograms of hazardous chemicals that could be used to make drugs from entering the country.
The operations and arrest of the drugs were conducted from March 15 to June 19 this year.
In addition, the authority stated that a total of 109 suspects were involved with three of them being foreigners.
“Some of the suspects have been brought to court and others are expected to be brought to court when the legal procedures are completed,” part of the statement read.
