DC hails sunflower market expansion

DODOMA: SINGIDA Urban District Commissioner Godwin Gondwe has commended Mainland Company for establishing a large-scale sunflower oil processing plant in Dodoma, calling it a key market opportunity for sunflower farmers in Singida and Dodoma.
During his visit to the company’s pavilion at the ongoing Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition in Dodoma, Mr Gondwe said the factory marks a turning point for sunflower producers in the central zone.
“This is a major breakthrough for sunflower farmers in this region. It guarantees them a reliable market and enhances their income prospects,” he said.
On his part, Mainland Company Sales Officer Mr Castro William said the factory, located at Veyula on the outskirts of Dodoma City, has seen an investment of nearly 30 million US dollars and occupies a 162,000-square-metre area.
He said the establishment of the sunflower oil plant in Dodoma is not only a step towards industrial growth in Tanzania but also a strategic expansion for the company across Africa.
“This is a transformative investment aimed at supporting agricultural value addition, boosting local economies and promoting intra-African trade in agricultural products,” Mr William explained.
The factory is focused on producing high-quality, safe and nutritious cooking oil, he said, adding that the company has introduced two main sunflower oil brands: Merrin Farm and Sunland.
“Merrin Farm is a premium refined sunflower oil brand made from 100 per cent pure sunflower seeds and processed to meet the highest quality standards,” he noted.
He added that Sunland oil is also produced from 100 per cent natural sunflower seeds and is rich in plant-based oils and Vitamin E-making it a healthy option for heart-conscious consumers.
