Dar port must be developed- CCM

Dar es Salaam Port

THE ruling  Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has directed the government to  continue with the development  plans  of  Dar es Salaam Port while considering  various constructive views which will increase efficiency of the harbour.

Speaking at Tanganyika Packers Grounds, Kawe in Dar es Salaam, CCM Secretary General Daniel Chongolo said the government should proceed with the investment plans, as the focus of the party is to ensure it gets enough funds to solve the challenges facing the citizens.

According to him, once the Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) between Tanzania and Emirate of Dubai improves Dar es Salaam Port, it will enhance availability of funds that will go directly to address various problems facing people.

The IGA aims at developing, improving, managing and operating the sea and lake ports in areas like special economic zones, logistic parks and trade corridors.

“Seriously on this, we (CCM) must know and direct the government to ensure that it continues with the Dar es Salaam port investment process while listening to well-intentioned opinions to increase port’s efficiency and productivity,” Mr Chongolo emphasised.

Chongolo also instructed the government to ensure they implement various issues highlighted in the CCM’s 2020-2025 election manifesto.

He added that section 22 of the CCM manifesto directs the government to involve the private sector in developing and building the country’s economy.

“Section 59 of manifesto gives instructions to the government regarding specific areas of investment and increasing productivity in our ports, and the beneficiaries of this desired productivity are Tanzanians,” he underlined.

In particular, the CCM’s Secretary General asked people who have alternative opinions concerning the matter to submit them to the government to have better plan, saying if well implemented it will bring great benefits to the country.

“What are we all afraid of? Why some people don’t want us to come, review, discuss and find areas that we think are more productive and fix them instead of criticising the matter using abusive language in their rallies? If you carefully listen to some people’s arguments you will realise that the agenda is not about productivity or reviewing of the agreement, rather the agenda is political interests,” Mr Chongolo said.

He  added that:  “If you see your enemy cheering   when you are doing something, stop doing it, there is a possibility that  what  you are doing is not  right , but if you see your enemy shouting or criticising when you are  doing something,  go on   with  speed  because  what you are doing is productive,” he said.

He urged politicians to stop using discriminatory language in social media and in rallies. He decried the emerging practice of discriminating against each other based on the places of origin when discussing various national issues.

“I would like Tanzanians to stop supporting the politicians issuing discriminatory statement … those people have ill intentions for the country’s unity and peace,” he added.

In a related development Mr Chongolo said, CCM is satisfied with how the government executes the party’s manifesto in various sectors including education, heath, water, energy   among others.

For his part, CCM veteran politician Stephen Wasira allayed fear among Tanzanians that no one is going to sell the port, adding the party has good intentions for the nation.
