Dar names Brown as envoy in Turkish World Cup

ALL is set as Cyril Brown has secured a ticket to represent Tanzania in the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup (TAWGC) Grand finals slated to tee off at Gloria Serenity Resort on the Turkish Golf Coast, in Türkiye later this year.

Turkish Airlines General Manager in Dar es Salaam, Abdul Kadir Karaman confirmed to the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday that Brown has won a ticket for the Grand Final after winning the TAWGC Dar series title in the 18-hole event held at the Dar es Salaam at Gymkhana Golf Club (DGC) course over the weekend.

The 18-hole Stableford tournament which brought together high-profile golfers and members of the business community, saw Brown outshining his opponents with impressive 44 points, as Kausar Jeraj was runner-up and Seif Mcharo finished third overall.

Also played well were Gandye Also Sisemi who won the closest to the Pin category for the men while Joyce Ndyetabura won the same title in the ladies’ category.

Mcharo also won the lowest gross score title after grossing two under par 69 strokes.

The 8th TAWGC, the world’s most prominent corporate golf tournament, returned to Dar es Salaam after being delayed.

Karam said since its inception in 2013, the TAWGC now brings together over 8,000 players who compete against one another in more than 85 tournaments worldwide.

He said the event at Gymkhana Golf Club was one of 88 tournaments in this year’s Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup – with the victors competing in the Grand Finals.

“From a global total of 88, those that win will go through to the Grand Finals.

“We warmly thank all of our guests who made the TAWGC here in Dar es Salaam a huge success. Once again, it was a thrilling tournament in the TAWGC series, congratulations to our winner, Cyril Brown, we wish him the best of luck in Türkiye,” added Karaman.

TAWGC finalists will fly to Türkiye with the Turkish Airlines Business Class according to Karaman.

He stressed that Turkish Airlines’ support makes the past events, such as the Turkish Airlines Open and TAWGC in Antalya, an international premium destination for golfers with outstanding facilities.

The Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup 2023 is also supported by Gloria Hotels & Resorts and Ruck & Maul, according to Karaman.
