College eyes more enrolment

THE Stefano Moshi Memorial University College (SMMUCo) eyes enrolling more learners following the completion of the construction of Machame Campus.

The move will also see the University College roll out more courses to keep with the pave of enrolment, according to the Head Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (ELCT), Bishop Dr Frederick Shoo.

“The Campus will introduce new science and business curriculum, a move which would double the number of scholars at the college,” stated the Bishop while officiating at a tree planting ceremony at the College’s Machame area.

Bishop Shoo further revealed that the University College had already started admitting diploma and certificate course students through its subsidiary institution of Masoka Professionals Training Institute (MPTI), located within the Moshi Municipality.

According to the ELCT Head, the proposed Machame campus is expected to commence its operations in the next academic year.

Commenting on the tree planting exercise, Bishop Dr Shoo said the college has set itself a target of planting 10,000 before the learning session takes off.

“The tree planting exercise here at Machame campus is part of ELCT’s Northern Diocese strategy of beautifying and making the region green…we’ve in fact set ourselves a target of planting an average of 10,000 tree seedings,” he said.

Earlier on, SMMUCo Acting Rector, Dr Gasper Mpehongwa, said a total of 550 students were pursuing different kinds of courses and educational programmes provided by the institution.

“We are currently offering courses related to social science; the completion of the Machame campus will expand the scope of courses offered by SMMUCo,” he pointed out.

Regarding the tree planting exercise, Dr Mpehongwa said it will help to improve the surroundings of the college as well as in training during environmental related studies.
