Coca-Cola donates tables, booths to traders

MORE than 300 traders at Mwenge Market in Dar es Salaam have benefited from more than 300 tables and 10 booths donated by Coca-Cola Beverages Africa.

Kinondoni District Commissioner Godwin Gondwe said while receiving the items recently that the donation aimed at helping and improving business environment of the traders.

“The government in collaboration with other stakeholders will continue to improve operations of traders in various markets in the district,” said Gondwe.

He also asked the traders to take care of the stalls and tables along with cleaning all areas around that market.

In addition, Gondwe has also warned people who intend to sell the booths to traders since Coca-Cola has provided them for free.

“I call upon Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau to be present during distribution of these tables and booths because I have heard complaints that there are people who are selling these cubicles and tables,” said DC Gondwe.

Gondwe has also given three days to the Kinondoni district marketing officer to ensure that the toilet at the market is opened for use.

He also assured the traders that plans are underway to install lights that will help them to do their business for 24 hours.

“We expect to put lights and roofs in this market so that they can conduct their business for 24 hours, whether it’s sunny or rainy season, they will continue to do their business without any worries,” said DC Gondwe.

On his side, the CEO of Cocacola Company Limited, Salum Nasoro said that the support aimed at helping businessmen in the market to conduct business in a comfortable manner.

“Today we have provided more than 300 tables and 10 booths that are worth 25m/- at this market which will also help to take care of the environment,” said Mr Nasoro.

Mr Nasoro has also assured the District Commissioner that they will continue to improve various areas, especially business operation to help entrepreneurs to get their basic rights.

“Until now, Coca-Cola has made adjustments in various areas, including Coco Beach, Kigogo Market, Bunju Market and Mwenge Market,” said Mr Nassoro.

He also thanked the government for continuing to cooperate with them in protecting the environment, especially in markets.

Also, Mr Nasoro has called on other stakeholders to come forward and help traders with the aim of improving their lives as well as protecting the environment.
