CHADEMA appoints team to oversee internal elections

The Central Committee approved the formation of the committee during its meeting held over the weekend

DAR ES SALAAM: The Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA) has appointed a committee of retired senior party members to oversee its internal national elections set for January 21, 2025.

The announcement was made by CHADEMA Secretary-General, John Mnyika, in a statement shared on his official X account (formerly Twitter) on Monday, adding that the election will take place at Mlimani City Hall in Dar es Salaam.

Elaborating, he noted that the Central Committee approved the formation of the committee during its meeting held on January 11, 2025.

According to Mnyika, the appointments align with the party’s regulations under section 7.3, which governs election management and voting procedures, including subsection 7.3.1, which specifically addresses election oversight.

The committee comprises the following esteemed retirees:
• Ahmed Rashid
• Alfred Kinyondo
• Prof. Azaveli Lwaitama
• Advocate Edson Mbogoro
• Francis Mushi
• Lumuli Kasyupa
• Prof. Raymond Mosha
• Ruth Mollel

The January 21 elections are expected to attract significant attention as CHADEMA positions itself for future political strategies.

In the course, a total of 300 candidates have collected and returned nomination forms to contest various leadership positions in CHADEMA’s upcoming national elections.

Meanwhile, the Central Committee is expected to conduct the screening between January 10 and 16, 2025, for council positions, with January 19 set aside for other candidates.
