ALL is set as Chief Defense Force (CDF) Jacob Mkunda and two retired CDFs; Venance Mabeyo and George Waitara will be on course today to light up the Lugalo Patron Trophy at TPDF Lugalo Golf club in Dar es Salaam today.
The 18-hole golf tournament is scheduled to tee off at par-72 Lugalo course, in the event to be graced by the Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports Mohamed Mchengerwa.
The club’s Chairman Michael Luwongo, revealed to the ‘Daily News on Saturday’ in Dar es Salaam yesterday also enlisted for the golf showdown are the Minister for Information, Communications and Information Technology Nape Nnauye and the Constitutional and Legal Affairs minister, Damas Ndumbaro.
Nnauye and Ndumbaro are among government leaders who play golf and they are key players who enabled the Bunge team to win the East African Inter-Parliamentary Golf Trophy in Arusha.
Luwongo said the preparation for the highly anticipated tournament has been finalised and everything is in place.
He said that over 160 golfers have confirmed to participate in the event that aims to honour the retired Chief of Defense Forces, General Mabeyo for his immense contribution to the development of golf.
Mabeyo has retired leaving a legacy as the one who laid a foundation stone to officially give blessings for the construction of the first ever golf course, a five-star hotel and sports centre in the country’s capital, Dodoma.
The 59.7bn/- Army project is also expected to construct a golf training academy which will be the third in the African continent.
The event, according to Luwongo, will also welcome the new patron of Lugalo Club, General Mkunda.
“We are grateful for them to respond to our call, it is going to be a wonderful and historical event,” he said.
CCM’s Parent Wing’s chairman, Edmund Mndolwa is also among the notable players.
Luwongo has also thanked NBC bank for sponsoring the tournament.
Participating players are from Moshi Club, Arusha Gymkhana, Mufindi Club, Morogoro Gymkhana, Dar es Salaam Gymkhana, Sea Cliff Golf Club Zanzibar, Kili Golf and TPC Golf Club.
