CCM parliamentary candidate promises to improve health services

MWANZA: CCM parliamentary candidate for Ukerewe constituency, Dr Switbert Mkama, has pledged that if elected, he will improve health services in the district. Mkama made the commitment while addressing residents at Nakamwa Primary School grounds.
He said his goal is to ensure that every village has a dispensary and every ward has a health centre.
“In collaboration with the government, we will add 16 more dispensaries. Currently there are 34 dispensaries. We will also add three health centres, in addition to the existing six,” he said.
On education, Dr Mkama said he will work with the government and Ukerewe residents to construct classrooms, address the shortage of toilet facilities, and complete all buildings initiated by citizens through self-reliance efforts.

“There is a primary school in Bukindo with 1,400 students, yet the pupils use only 10 toilet holes. This has been a serious challenge for the students,” he said.
Addressing the electricity challenge, he promised to ensure every sub-district gets connected, noting that more than 96 sub-districts still lack electricity.
He commended the Government’s efforts in ensuring every village in Ukerewe has access to power. Dr Mkama also promised to ensure access to clean and safe water in the district because many residents still rely on lake water, which exposes them to diseases such as cholera.
On industrial development, Dr Mkama said Ukerewe does not have a single factory, so he will seek investors to establish fish and seafood processing and drying factories, to add value to the island’s resources.
CCM Chairman for Mwanza Region, Mr Michael Lushinge, urged Ukerewe residents to elect Dr Mkama for the sake of accelerating development.
