CAF Schools: Fountain Gate Girls seal semis

THE Tanzanian envoys’ Fountain Gate sealed their place in the girls’ semifinals of the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental championship after beating Scan Aid of Gambia 2-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban, South Africa, on Thursday.
Zainabu Karuka and Winfrida Hubert banked the Tanzanian’s side victory and set an unbeaten run, as, before yesterday’s victory, they destroyed Edendale Technical High School by 7-1.
After accumulating six points, Fountain Gate paraded as Group A leaders to the semis.
Other than Tanzania setting an unbeaten record, their top striker Winifrida Gerald commands the golden boot race with six goals tally, followed by Malak Hajjam El Idrissi of Ecole Omar ibn Khatab who banked five goals. Winifrida’s teammate Mary Siyame holds third place with two goals she lodged against Edendale.
Other schools that sailed in the semis stage include Ecole Omar IBN Khatab of Morocco and Scan Aid of Gambia.
They have joined Fountain Gate School from Tanzania in the last four games to be staged at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday, with the fourth team still to be decided in tomorrow’s final pool fixtures.
Scan Aid girls sailed to semis after picking a second place in the group. They held host Edendale Technical High School in their group opening to a draw in the Group opening.
Gambia’s representative Scan Aid girls came from behind to force a 1-1 draw with hosts Edendale Technical High School in their opening match on Wednesday.
While Ecole Omar IBN Khatab of Morocco sailed to the semis after leading the group, beating Anse Boileau 6-0, then defeated CEG de Mfilou from Congo 3-0.
The teams are vying to be crowned champions of Africa, but also for the USD 300,000 US dollars first prize in each competition.
In addition, the Motsepe Foundation has donated 10m US Dollars s s /- to boost the competition in its inaugural year.
