BRELA strengthens online business registration

MOROGORO: THE Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA) is intensifying efforts to strengthen its digital systems to reduce bureaucracy, safeguard the rights of business owners and ensure safe and efficient online business registration for all Tanzanians.
BRELA Chief Executive Officer, Godfrey Nyaisa was speaking on Friday in Morogoro to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Dr Hashil Abdallah ahead of the official opening of a management training programme for ministry officials.
Dr Nyaisa said the training programme was organised by BRELA to provide in-depth knowledge to senior officials, ensuring they fully understand the agency’s mandate, registration procedures, licensing processes and digital systems. This, he noted, will help them become effective ambassadors in offering accurate business advisory services.

“BRELA continues to implement a plan to strengthen digital systems across the country, targeting officers from the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The goal is to improve service delivery, protect the rights of business owners and stimulate industrial economic growth,” he said.
He added that the training forms part of the government’s broader vision to develop a digital economy and improve the investment climate.
“BRELA is a key institution in the country’s business ecosystem, responsible for administering six major laws,” Dr Nyaisa stressed.
In her welcoming remarks, the Chairperson of BRELA’s Advisory Board, Professor Neema Mori, said the Board recognises the importance of such training sessions in enhancing the agency’s effectiveness.
She added that the Board will continue to guide and oversee BRELA to ensure it achieves its strategic objectives, enhances business efficiency and promotes innovation.
On his part, Permanent Secretary Dr Hashil Abdallah urged BRELA to effectively translate into action the directives of the sixth-phase government on improving the business environment.
He commended the agency for organising the capacity-building programme, which focuses on equipping public and private sector officers with skills to use digital technologies to ease the access of company registration services, trademarks and business licensing.
“BRELA’s role is to implement policies overseen by the ministry. A shared understanding through this working session provides a solid foundation for accountability and effective implementation of the National Trade Policy and the Sustainable Development Agenda,” Dr Abdallah said.
He further challenged participants to have an in-depth discussion on the issuance of business and industrial licences, existing challenges and the systems currently in place within the Ministry.
“I want you to examine thoroughly the licensing processes, the scope of industrial and business licences, and any challenges within the existing systems,” he stressed.
