BFT rolls out boxing training programme for coaches, referees

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Boxing Federation (BFT) has announced an intensive foundational training programme aimed at nurturing and enhancing skills of boxing coaches and referees across the country.

The course will run from June 30 to July 10, providing participants with a valuable opportunity to gain indepth knowledge and practical experience that will elevate the standards of boxing in Tanzania.

The training sessions will be held at the CCM Tiptop Hall in Manzese, Dar es Salaam, with a focus on strengthening the technical standards of the sport nationwide.

BFT Secretary General, Makore Mashaga, emphasised that the programme is primarily designed for retired boxers who have not yet received formal training in coaching or officiating. Mashaga also noted that the course is open to boxing enthusiasts and individuals seeking to deepen their understanding of the sport, particularly those involved in coaching without professional certification.

“This course reflects our commitment to maintaining high standards in boxing education and promoting the sport’s development on a solid foundation. We want to ensure that everyone involved in coaching and officiating possesses the appropriate knowledge and certification to perform their duties effectively,” he explained.

“The initiative aims to provide a clear pathway for former athletes and aspiring professionals to transition into structured roles within the boxing ecosystem. This includes equipping them with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to become certified coaches and referees.

He pointed out that the course will be led by a team of experienced instructors and referees. Coaching sessions will be conducted by wellknown local trainers, including Michael Changarawe, Robert Sululu and Samwel Kapungu.

The refereeing segment will be handled by Makore Mashaga himself, along with veteran referee Mafuru Mafuru. The BFT has urged all interested individuals to register promptly, as preparations are underway and slots are limited. Registration is currently open and applicants are encouraged to act quickly to secure their participation.
