Best sports personalities gala ignites Dar tonight
ALL is set as the government awards the best sportsmen and women who excelled in various sports disciplines this season in colourful gala night at Mlimani City hall in Dar es Salaam tonight.
It was announced that Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa is expected to grace the award ceremony in the city late today.
The award event has been organised by the National Sports Council (NSC) on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports.
According to the Ministry’s official Instagram page, various sports and arts stakeholders are expected to witness the event.
Among the stakeholders include Maswet Masinda who is the Deputy Secretary General of the Inter Parastatal and Ministries Games (SHIMMUTA), Innocent Mallya, the Judo governing body’s Deputy Secretary and the SHIMMUTA’s Chairman Roselyne Massam.
Speaking on the event recently, the National Sports Council (NSC) chairman Leodegar Tenga said the awards ceremony will be supervised by nine members of the committee who have vast experience in sports disciplines who also managed to organise many big sporting events.
The members of the committee are Mkumbukwa Mtambo, who is the committee chairman, Leonard Thadeo, its vice-chairman and Neema Msitha, who is the Secretary of the committee.
Others are Jonas Tiboroha, Nasra Mohamed, Christina Koroso, Boniface Wambura, Juma Ikangaa, and Omar Omar.
He said the committee has made a cut in finding the best sportsmen and women categories to find three best athletes in each category.
While addressing this, he said that the awards will be provided to the best sportsmen and women. Another category will be given to male and female athletes who excelled in sports for people with disabilities.
He added that there will be an overall winner who will be awarded an extra award for all the sports disciplines.
Others who will be awarded are the best teams that performed well in International competitions as well as the best athletes in every sports club at the international level competitions.
He said that the cut process was conducted in transparency, professionalism and great attention; he has also called on the sports stakeholders to show up at today’s event.
