Be close to your children, mothers reminded

MOTHERS have been urged to ensure they effectively play their parenting role by being close to their children in order to protect them from any acts of sexual abuse.

The advice was given recently by Inspector of Police Blandina Ndunguru, who is in charge of gender desk at Chang’ombe Police Station.

Inspector Ndunguru was making presentation at a youth camp under the Jikwamue Project run by Mulika Tanzania organisation.

The project engaged 60 youths aged between 15 and 25 years old from the districts of Kinondoni and Kigamboni.

It aimed at educating the group about HIV/Aids, gender violence and entrepreneurship.

Speaking to the youth, Inspector Blandina said nowadays women are much occupied with income-generating activities to a point that they forget about parenting role.

She also reminded men to cooperate with their wives in raising the children.

“There are cases about child abuse reported to police stations but parents do not cooperate especially when it comes to giving evidence,” she stated.

On his part, Mulika Tanzania Executive Director Mr Hussein Melele, said they have been motivating the youths to take part in development matters.

“We have been building awareness over reproductive health and gender issues among the youth,” he said.

“The youth should largely contribute to the country’s development and avoid contracting HIV/Aids,” he added.

Some of the youth, who participated at the event, admitted that they learnt about how to avoid contracting HIV/Aids infections.

Mwajuma Omar, one of the participants, said she learnt things that she previously did not know.

  1. Wonderful blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any recommendations? Appreciate it!
