BAMATA, CISM to train 150 coaches

To ensure that Tanzania prospers in sports and games the National Military Sports Council (BAMATA) in collaboration with the German Army Forces and the International Military Sports Council (CISM) will conduct a two-week training for 150 coaches of basketball, boxing and handball.
The BAMATA representative, Brigadier General Selemani Gwaya disclosed that during the training’s opening ceremony saying it will benefit the army, sportsmen and women and the entire nation.
It is the third time such training has been conducted; previously this training was conducted in 2018 and 2019.
He said they have trained many coaches in the last two years.
He said such training aims to improve Tanzania status in sports and the national teams.
“Following two basketball training courses conducted in 2018 and 2019, were highly professional as they were conducted by experts and in that year Tanzanian teams sparkled.
“With this, we hope to make Tanzania a permanent zone in basketball in the World Military Games Council and that Tanzania will participate in every Army competition from now on.
This includes the possibility of Tanzania organizing one of the world military competitions in the future.”
For his part, the Executive Secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC), Neema Msitha congratulated BAMATA for the training which she said has positively impacted the nation as Tanzania won three medals in the recently held Commonwealth Games as all three medals were brought by TPDF members.
“We applaud the efforts made by TPDF for bringing an expert to drill our coaches; the Government is happy and will support you fully,” she said.
The head of CISM, also a basketball coach from Germany, Christian Lutzkendorf, said he is delighted to be among the coaches and that it is his second time in Tanzania.
He added that he is happy to see significant progress, especially in handball.
Seleman Kidunda, TPDF boxer also lauded the BAMATA for organising such training as it gives them better skills from well-trained coaches.
“I think it is a good thing, and I should congratulate my leaders for providing us with this training. I would like this to be done every year to help us learn skills and knowledge on our games”
